Mortuary Coolers & Morgue Cooling Systems

What temperature does a mortuary cooler operate at?

All AMC mortuary coolers hold 36–39°F interior at ambient conditions up to 80°F. This meets OSHA and state funeral board operating specifications. BTU figures are not published in buyer-facing materials; specs are confirmed at time of order.

What is the difference between an upright mortuary cooler and a walk-in morgue cooling system?

An upright mortuary cooler is a self-contained, plug-in unit (2-body through 12-body) that ships assembled and requires only power and a level floor. A walk-in morgue cooling system is a modular refrigerated room built to custom dimensions with a separate compressor pack. Uprights deploy faster; walk-ins handle higher capacity and custom facility layouts.

What size mortuary cooler do I need?

Sizing depends on daily and peak body volume, available floor space, ambient temperature, and whether you need roll-in cot access. See our Mortuary Cooler Sizing Guide or submit an RFQ for a custom recommendation.

Do AMC mortuary coolers meet state funeral board requirements?

Yes. AMC units are engineered to OSHA and state board temperature storage specifications. Compliance documentation is available. See our 50-State Compliance Directory.

Can I use a mortuary cooler in a hot climate or outdoors?

AMC units are rated to 80°F ambient. Hotter environments or direct sun exposure require additional engineering review. See: Mortuary Coolers for Hot Climates.

What electrical supply is required?

Upright units: 115V/60Hz single-phase. Walk-in systems: 208–240V single- or three-phase. Full electrical schematics are provided with every walk-in order. See our Electrical Planning Guide.

Do walk-in mortuary coolers require a concrete slab?

Yes. Level concrete of specified thickness and load rating is required. Requirements vary by unit size. Review the Floor & Slab Requirements Guide before ordering.

What is the difference between a mortuary cooler and a mortuary freezer?

A mortuary cooler maintains 36–39°F for short-to-medium-term preservation. A mortuary freezer operates at 0°F or below for long-term anatomy storage, mass fatality, or forensic holds. See: Cooler vs. Freezer Guide.
